Long time no see. I am writing another article after a long break, and honestly, I have no idea how many people will read this.
Do you know why?
Because no one searches on Google anymore. People just ask ChatGPT questions like “Is AI really a friend in the long run?” and they get a precise answer in seconds.
And yes, I am one of them too.
I do not surf Google or DuckDuckGo like I used to. Why would I? AI makes things simpler. Information is faster, easier, and more accessible than ever. But recently, I noticed a small problem in my lifestyle and my relationship with AI, and that is why I am writing this.
AI is just another technology, and its adoption has been incredibly fast. But it is not the first massive shift humanity has experienced. Think about the internet. I was not even alive when it was first introduced, but I have read enough to understand what happened.
People were amazed. They created social boards that replaced face to face conversations. They created music platforms that replaced MP3 players. Entire industries disappeared, and new ones were born.
The internet created jobs and killed jobs. The transition was not easy. People who could not adapt were left behind, just like what is happening right now with AI.
However, I do not think the AI revolution is the same as the internet revolution.
We are being pushed to believe that AI efficiency is greater than anything we can imagine. But honestly, I do not buy it anymore.
AI is as useless as it is useful, just like humans.
I am not saying it is a bad product. I am saying it is not nearly as efficient as we were promised. Look at the energy usage. Look at the water consumption and the hardware demand. And what do we get in return? Yes, there are real benefits like research and productivity, but we are also producing massive amounts of low quality content.
You can use the internet to research important topics or to bully strangers online. AI is no different. It is just another tool.
The AI shift is personal for me. And yes, the most obvious reason is that I lost readers. Why read my article when you can ask an AI to explain everything in seconds?
I do not blame anyone. I do the same thing.
But here is what really bothers me. AI is consuming our content to generate so called new content, and we earn nothing from it. Writers, programmers, and artists are feeding the system, and the system gives nothing back.
As humanity, we need to find a solution. Otherwise, big corporations will continue stealing our data and using it against us without consequences.
Wake up, samurai. We have an AI center to burn.
Just kidding, but you get the point.
Now let us talk about hardware. RAM prices and GPU prices keep increasing because of AI. Do I use AI? Yes. But what happens when people cannot afford the hardware or access needed to use these services?
Who is going to use them then?
Big corporations are the real problem. They are inflating this hype as much as possible. OpenAI does not even make real money yet. It survives on investments from other corporations, who then sell hardware and cloud services back to it. It is a closed loop that benefits the same players.
And I am honestly tired of companies trying to put AI into everything. Please stop and get some help.
This article is basically me venting about AI’s impact on my life. But I am sure at least one to five people reading this have experienced the same frustration.
AI is great. I use it. You use it. It is not going away.
But sooner or later, we have to support the content creators who feed AI systems, and we have to deal with AI’s massive resource consumption.
Otherwise, the efficiency of AI will not be any better than my toaster.
